Last month I was lucky enough to embark on our first official family trip with the baby to Palm Springs. I had never been there before and my soul was desperately needing some R&R and vitamin D! We booked a quick Tuesday to Friday getaway, jumped on a reasonable 2.5 hour flight and landed in a sunny paradise. Resort of choice? Indian Wells Resort Hotel in Palm Desert.
Here is my breakdown of the trip. To add a few laughs I’m comparing this baby style trip with previous trips I’ve been used to going on before having my cutie pie.
PRE-BABY VS. WITH BABY
-Wake up 1 hour before having to leave for the airport / Wake up 2.5 hours early to get myself ready first then handle feeding and prepping daughter
-Wait in line at security in the airport / get VIP treatment because of the baby, skip the line, and go straight through to security check
-Sleep on plane / Carry baby in baby carrier and try to sleep while she sleeps
-Go to the bathroom 2-3 times because I have a weak bladder / Hold it in because baby is sleeping
-Grab a taxi or Uber / Rent a car to carry the pounds of luggage and baby equipment
-Wake up and lie at the pool ALL day / Go to the pool and try and put baby to sleep there out of the sun. Suntan for about 10 minutes until dad and baby call needing me. Leave the pool after an hour max.
-Eat dinner whenever we are hungry / Leave between 6-7pm and rock baby to sleep in her stroller. Have an action plan in case she crumbles.
-Have a bottle of wine or two at dinner / Feel like I’m living on the edge and order one glass of wine.
-Go for a hike or do something active outdoors / Go to the outlets and walk around there so it’s not too hot for the baby
-Watch a movie in bed / Watch a movie on the laptop while sharing a set of earphones so as not to wake baby
Regardless of the changes and adaptations that naturally must occur when having a family, I wouldn’t change a thing! It’s funny though because little things like sleeping in, lying in the sun, or selfishly doing whatever I wanted on holiday are things that I definitely took for granted. Now I’m soaking in different kinds of days, family filled days that fill my heart. Being a mom is wonderful and I’m ready for the challenges and sacrifices that come. I know it’s not always peachy cream. Seeing how happy my daughter was swimming in the pool and experiencing many firsts while away was very fulfilling. Here’s to many more family adventures. I know this is only the first of many to come.
